Another peek at paintings in progress: Portraits I’ll be showing during the Eastside Culture Crawl.

Listening to Harry Potter on audiobook right now as I work. My studio-mate and I have made our way through the first 5 1/2 books over the past few months. I’d never read the books before – I usually catch on to popular trends a few years late (if at all!) – but now I seriously get what all the fuss is about.
And, in case the whole world doesn’t already know, Deathly Hallows 2 comes out in two days! How exciting is that, right?? The books are, of course, so much better. But Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley: so great!

I wanted to write this epic post about the Culture Crawl, that invaded my studio two weekends ago… but haven’t had much chance to catch my breath… So in lieu of epic, here are some delightful photos that Joey took over the weekend:

Me in opening-night excitement/exhaustion-addled delirium.
Wall of art. Notice the red dots beginning to appear by some of the paintings? Red dots are beautiful…

Cheap(ish) art can be lucrative! Some of these were the first to go.

The best sister in the world (don’t even try to tell me yours is better) made these amazing cookies for all my guests.

Yep, that’s me. I’ve left this up on my studio door. It gives off a “hm, she’s so professional” vibe, don’t you think?

I’m very excited for this event! Eastside Culture Crawl, November 26 – 28.
I’ll be opening my studio up to the public, along with hundreds of other artists in East Van.
This is the first year that my building will get to display the iconic yellow balloons since the Crawl expanded their boundaries. The Hamilton Bank Building is beautiful, super old, and brimming with crazy stories. 4 other artists here will be in the Crawl, and we are all working hard to get ready. Check out their stuff via this link, along with a map of our location.

Last week I started working from my new studio which is AWESOME, mainly because it’s not my closet. Since I got back from traveling at the end of March, I’d been working from home, and had converted my closet into a mini-office, while still storing my clothes and other random storage-closet type items there. It was messy. Dark. Cold. And a little depressing.
My new studio rocks my world. I will take a photo/draw a picture of it soon…

There are so many pretty awesome illustrations to be found in the portfolio of Frédérique Bertrand. I had a hard time deciding which one to post.

hey isn’t this illustration so calm and melancholy? I want to go to that place. in a boat with my dog. and wear a yellow hat.
